Raf Simons | Hi-Top Astronaut Sneaker | 2010

Spring/Summer 2010 | Available Now

Belgian designer Raf Simons was trained as a furniture designer prior to his foray into fashion, and perhaps as such, his sartorial creations often carry an architectural sentimentality with a brave play on silhouettes, volumes and shapes that challenge the traditions and classics of fashion. Aside from well-constructed apparel with simple lines but surprising elements, the designer’s footwear has also been extremely well-received and garnered immense attention for their innovative use of materials, daring shapes while retaining a sense of luxury. Thus, the designer has also been a favored collaborator with numerous footwear labels such as Dr. Martens and asics.

This season, Raf Simons brings back one of its iconic classics (which has been appearing faithfully every season with celebrated response), the Astronaut Sneaker, in a fresh colorway. The Astronaut Sneaker, as its name suggests, enjoys a futuristic look created by a mix of interesting technical elements. A bulgy ankle zippered pocket, double tongue (with the first tongue hiding a velcro strap within) become design components that contribute to the sneaker’s uniqueness. While the sneaker is somewhat top heavy, the rest of the shoes are kept slim to build a sense of contrast in volume. The sneaker is done up in a tonal dark olive and sits atop clean white soles. pair with this season’s popular breezy pleated pants with cropped, cuffed or tapered legs to show off the design details.

The shoes are now available for order online and oki-ni, but don’t wait to purchase as the previous version of black and gold sold out quickly.
